Stakeholder input and feedback are vital to the success of the Community Parks Initiative (CPI) as we aim to rebuild a safer, stronger system of city parks. Last night, we heard many creative ideas and thoughtful concerns on how to improve SAW MILL PLAYGROUND, such as:
· Stronger lighting and add a rubber safety surface,
· Parks enforcement of dog waste pick-up law,
· a water playground for tots echoing the neighborhood history which had saw mills powered by rivers,
· a challenging, creative climbing apparatus for older kids, with curly slides and fun colors,
· an adaptive sensory play area serving children with special needs attending the adjacent school,
· more trees for shade and landscaped greenery, along with picnics/chess tables, and benches,
· a drinking fountain,
· multiuse turf soccer field with soft track around it,
· motivational inspiring quotes posted around the park,
· recycling bins,
· upgrade the basketball courts,
· a bathroom.

Concept Plan Presentation to Your Community Board
Based on the input we received yesterday evening, NYC Parks will develop a conceptual plan and a subsequent schematic design for capital improvements to present at your local community board office. The date for this initial presentation about SAW MILL PLAYGROUND is Monday February 9, 2015.

Future Meeting to Brainstorm Programming Ideas
Later this spring, we will be hosting an informal meeting on ways local community members can organize and collaborate to program events and activities at SAW MILL PLAYGROUND. Since you have demonstrated active interest by attending the input meeting last night, I wanted to bring this future opportunity to your attention.

CPI
I will be reaching out in the coming weeks with more information on how to participate in the reconstruction of SAW MILL PLAYGROUND. In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about how CPI fits into the Park Department’s Framework for an Equitable Future, please visit www.nyc.gov/parks/cpi.

Thanks again for your efforts and commitment to improving SAW MILL PLAYGROUND!

I look forward to hearing from you.
